Solar Drying of Ayurvedic Raw Materials
Description
Solar Drying of Ayurvedic Raw Materials is an enclosed solar drying application for controlled moisture reduction in suitable plant-based materials used in Ayurvedic, herbal and traditional wellness processing. Applications may include leaves, roots, rhizomes, flowers, bark, fruits, seeds and other botanical raw materials such as ashwagandha, tulsi, neem, moringa, turmeric, ginger and amla, depending on the intended processing requirement.
Ayurvedic raw materials vary significantly in plant part, moisture content, density, thickness, volatile compounds and sensitivity to temperature. Leaves and flowers may require different drying conditions from dense roots, bark or rhizomes. Therefore, one fixed drying temperature or duration should not be applied across all botanical materials.
An enclosed solar drying system uses solar thermal energy with managed airflow to remove moisture from the loaded material. Depending on system design, solar-powered DC fans may support forced air circulation while the enclosed chamber helps reduce direct exposure to dust, insects, birds and uncontrolled outdoor contact.
Actual drying performance depends on material type, initial and target moisture, cleaning and preparation, cutting or slicing, layer thickness, tray loading, airflow, temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation and local weather. Temperature-sensitive or aromatic materials may require additional control where colour, aroma and other quality characteristics are important.
Solar drying can support Ayurvedic raw-material suppliers, herbal processors, medicinal-plant growers, FPOs, SHGs and botanical processing enterprises involved in post-harvest handling and value addition.
